Biography

Alex Crowchild is a member of Tsuu T’ina Nation. After leaving school, Alex worked as a roofer, a band counselor for Tsuu T’ina Nation, and then an addictions counselor at the Tsuu T’ina Nation Spirit Healing Lodge Aftercare Services where he stayed until his retirement in 2004. Alex also took Nechi Training in 1986-87 and 1989-90. Alex has served many years as an active member of several boards including the Native Alcohol Service (1975-1993), the Wisdom Committee with Alberta Mental Health Board (2000-present), as well an active member of the Nechi Institute’s Board of Governors since 1996. His dedication, guidance, and knowledge continues to assist Nechi in our many endeavors. Recognized as a medicine bundle caretaker for his band since April 19, 1973, Alex is also a pipe holder and Elder. Alex is married with four children, ten foster children, many grandchildren, and a growing number of great grandchildren. He is an avid golfer and billiard’s player, and has embraced returning to living a traditional way of life, participating and hosting sweat lodges, night lodges, Sundance’s, and a variety of other ceremonies.
