Biography

Nechi Training, Research and Health Promotions Institute is a place where healing and education meet. Our programs help you to continue your personal development journey while obtaining professional training. Our curriculum is the end result of careful academic research and decades of practitioner experience working with Aboriginal clients.   Thirty seven years ago, Nechi Institute was built on the sacred foundation of Natural Law. In the Aboriginal world-view, Natural Law is defined by universal “truths” and by natural values such as kindness, honesty, caring/sharing and strength/determination. With the guidance of Elders, our predecessors used these principles to initiate a transformative healing process for our Native communities. Great progress has been made; however, the challenge to improving our lives as Aboriginal peoples is ongoing. Healing from the effects of historical trauma through naming it and a process of forgiveness is the course we need to follow.   Although Nechi Training, Research and Health Promotions Institute trained over 9000 people, the social problems that include a lack of education and economic opportunity afflict many of our peoples. At Nechi Training, Research and Health Promotions Institute we believe that by connecting ourselves to land, language and culture, that we will have a greater sense of identity, health and wellbeing, to be able to achieve higher education and economic opportunity. By healing the historical trauma and connecting to the Life Source, we will have greater clarity and vision to overcome the challenges and barriers that exist in contemporary society.   Today, Nechi Institute continues to provide essential tools to help all people improve their health and wellbeing. Through training, research and health promotion activities, Nechi encourages learning and holistic healing for individuals, families and communities. Both staff and students at Nechi share a common vision of the future. One day, our communities will, once again, be healthy, vibrant and safe. By returning to our traditional teachings of Natural Law, our children will grow up strong and self-assured. Our people will live long, rewarding and meaningful lives. In time, these New People (the “Oskiya”) will become Elders themselves. We will keep the circle strong!   Our collective efforts are focused on making that vision a reality. For the coming year, Nechi is committed to working on:
  • Obtaining guidance from our Elders, Leaders, Funders, and Community Stakeholders
  • Providing more off-site training in Aboriginal communities
  • Participating in more community events and conferences
  • Creating and disseminating new knowledge in training, research and health promotions
  • Combining current Western and Traditional Knowledge with innovative technology
  • Developing Oskiya to balance Western Knowledge/Technology with Natural Law Teachings and  Practices
We are at a crucial time and Nechi Institute needs you to help restore balance and make our circle stronger. The training you will receive at Nechi is experiential, and built on a solid spiritual foundation. We invite you to build your career on it.
