Biography

Josie Auger is committed to holistic healing that includes knowledge of traditional healing practices, culturally appropriate disease prevention and health promotion. The title of her dissertation research is Spider Weaving: STI/HIV Prevention Using Popular Theatre and Action Research in an Indigenous Community. Since 2008, Ms. Auger has filled the position of Chief Executive Officer for the Nechi Training, Research and Health Promotions Institute located in St. Albert, Alberta. Previously, she has taught Indigenous Studies, Canadian History, Native Health Issues and Drama at the post-secondary level. She also conducted research and wrote reports for various levels of government and Indigenous communities on health issues such as diabetes, respiratory diseases, injuries, birth weight, mental health and sexually transmitted infections and HIV.
