National Aboriginal Addictions Awareness Week (NAAAW):
November 15-21, 2009
National Aboriginal Addictions Awareness Week (NAAAW) (formally National Addictions Awareness Week (NAAW)) is held annually the third week of November.
Many communities organize their efforts to bring greater addictions awareness to their members. Activities are planned around sober walks & dances, informative addictions workshops, and addictions free activities such as comedy nights or candlelight vigils.
Nechi is able to offer your community over 35 years of addictions counselor training and 18 years experience hosting the original NAAW campaign, to help your NAAAW activities have impact and be truly empowering.
We can offer the following informative workshops:
- Youth and Addictions
- Adult Children of Alcoholics
- Dynamics of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Six Stages of Recovery
- Gambling
- Tobacco Cessation
- Historical Impacts of Residential Schools
- Crack/cocaine Impacts and Awareness
- Healthy Sexuality
- Cultural Awareness
- Family Violence
- Self-Care Plan using the Medicine Wheel
- Bullying
- Healthy Relationships
- Family Disease
Nechi Institute's instructors and contract trainers have many years experience in the addictions field. Many of them having "been there done that." Their "down to Earth" easy to understand approaches engage their audience and offer plenty of chance to ask questions and give feedback.
Nechi also uses culturally relevant teachings and tools during their workshops to truly reach an Aboriginal audience.
Workshops can be specialized based on your communities needs and there are more topics to choose from!
