"I never [knew] about the native culture and the way my life revolved around spirituality." - Darrell Quinney

Workshops & Training

Whether you’re a veteran youth worker or someone new to the field, you will gain valuable knowledge and tools from our specially designed training. We offer the following workshops:

Communicating With Youth

Identifying a need for greater communications skills for those working with Aboriginal youth, this workshop is designed to enhance individual communication skills, and provide strategies for overcoming barriers and reaching resistant youth. This workshop is approved for 40 hours study credit by the Canadian Council of Professional Certification.

Survival Skills for Youth Workers

This workshop will equip youth workers with the skills necessary for dealing effectively with youth. Participants learn how to establish boundaries, intervene and negotiate effectively, enhance their own self-esteem, and manage reactive behaviours in youth. It’s approved for 40 hours study credit by the Canadian Council of Professional Certification.

Healthy Sexuality

Sex and sexuality, which is a taboo subject in most Aboriginal communities, is addressed in a positive manner. This workshop teaches healthy sexuality, traditional values and beliefs on the subject, and how to foster trust and ensure confidential and safe disclosures. This workshop is approved for 40 hours study credit by the Canadian Council of Professional Certification.

Smoking Cessation Project

The focus of this project is to train Aboriginal youth to deliver smoking cessation workshops in their communities. So far, 16 youth have taken part in the project. The Nechi tobacco resources library is the source of materials for this course. The youth who have been trained may be available to deliver workshops in your area.
